Custom compounding

Medication, made to fit

Compounding means we prepare a medication here, from your prescriber's order, when the manufactured version is not right for you: the strength, the form, an ingredient or the flavor.

  • Non-sterile only
  • Prescription required

Good to know before you ask

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are made. We prepare non-sterile preparations only, always from a prescription, and not every preparation can be made. If we cannot make what was prescribed, we will tell you and your prescriber.

Why a prescriber may consider it

Whether compounding is right is a decision for you and your prescriber.

  • Trouble swallowing tablets

A liquid or another form may work better.

  • A strength that is not made

When a more individual dose is called for.

  • An ingredient to avoid

Such as a dye, sugar or gluten, where that is possible.

  • A different form would suit better

A cream, gel, liquid or lozenge instead of a tablet.

  • A manufactured product is not available

Your prescriber decides whether a compounded preparation is appropriate.

  • A flavor someone will take

For children, and for pets who refuse the usual form.

Core specialties

What we are asked for most

  • Veterinary Compounding

Pets are not one-size-fits-all, and neither are their medications. We prepare flavored oral liquids in the strength your veterinarian prescribes.

  • Pain Management

We prepare compounded topical pain formulations when prescribed, using the strength and base specified by the prescriber.

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy

We prepare compounded hormone formulations to a prescriber's specifications. Any change in strength or formulation requires prescriber direction.

From prescription to preparation

The same process, seen from each side of the prescription.

If you are a patient

  1. Ask first

Talk with your prescriber, or call us to ask whether we can make it.

  2. Your prescriber sends the order

Or you bring the written prescription to the counter.

  3. We prepare it here

Made to order on site, to the strength and form prescribed.

  4. We let you know it is ready

Pick it up at the counter, or ask about delivery.

If you are a prescriber or office

  1. Talk it through

Call to discuss a strength, dosage form or base before you write it.

  2. Send the prescription

The way you send any prescription to us, or fax (972) 442-5356.

  3. We prepare to the order

    Non-sterile preparations only.

  4. We tell you if we cannot

If a preparation cannot be made, we contact you and the patient.
